The Ah Haa art auction is always one of the signature events of the summer. Friday, July 19 you can join in the fun: this year’s theme is “To-Hell-You-Ride, The Wild Years.”
The night kicks off with a silent auction where you can bid on locally made art, jewelry, craftwork and prizes, features an entertaining live auction and culminates with a dance party. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best 70s attire and join in the celebration of the decade that marked the transformation of the town into a ski resort, a legendary time of ski bums, hippies and parties.
The theme isn’t the only thing that’s retro about this year’s auction. Every year an “art car” gets bedecked by local artists and is the premier auction item. The art car this summer is a vintage 1963 International Camper painted by MD. It is probably the only piece you can acquire that will require a vehicle with a tow ball, but there are all kinds of beautiful things that you can pick up at the auction from nearly a hundred local artists. Show your support for a Telluride institution, the Ah Haa School for the Arts, and stop by the big tent on South Townsend Street at 5 p.m. on July 19.
