Telluride Bluegrass Festival Ticket Sales On Fire

Telluriders still in shock from Broncos QB Tim Tebow’s performance last night woke up to another unusual sight: people in sleeping bags outside of Telluride Music, waiting to snare some of the last 4-day passes to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
But wait, you say, isn’t it January? The bluegrass festival isn’t until June, right? And isn’t it freezing outside? Yes, yes and yes. But the way the ticket sales are going for the 2012 festival, nobody’s taking any chances. The 4-day passes sold out Christmas Day, just 18 days after they went on sale—and before Telluride Bluegrass even announced the lineup.
Luckily for locals, the festival holds on to some passes to keep bluegrass lovers in the 81435 zip code happy as crowds of 10-15,000 people from the rest of the world invade the town. Those local tickets went on sale today and people were waiting, bundled up in warm clothes and sleeping bags.
Now what about that lineup? You won’t see Mumford (in the video above from the 2011 festival) but there are lots of other favorites returning for the 39th annual event, including Alison Krauss, John Prine, k.d. lang, Bruce Hornsby, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Peter Rowan, YMSB and others, and you can check out who else will be here on the Telluride Bluegrass website.
